  • Excellent professional development opportunities.
  • A friendly and supportive learning environment with excellent student/staff relationships
  • An exciting, modern state-of-the-art building with unrivalled facilities
  • We offer a comprehensive programme of CPD.

West Lakes Academy was inspected in March 2017 and judged to be outstanding in all aspects. A key strength of this report was “Pupils currently in the school are making rapid and sustained progress across all subject areas. Outcomes in English…are particularly impressive.”

We are looking for someone who can improve on that already outstanding performance.

We are a thriving, ambitious and forward thinking 11-18 academy situated on the edge of the beautiful Lake District. Our modern £26m building provides outstanding facilities, incorporating cutting edge technology which creates a bright and motivational learning environment. As a Teaching School and Multi Academy Trust we are building strong links with other schools in the local area and nationally. This role therefore provides significant career development opportunities as we continue to grow. We offer a comprehensive programme of individualised, evidence based CPD as well as encouraging colleagues to further their development through courses such as the National Professional Qualifications, a Masters degree, or supporting extra-curricular qualifications.

The academy’s Sponsors – Sellafield Limited, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and the University of Central Lancashire have each played an important role in its success and are committed to its continued improvement.

The academy has been heavily oversubscribed for the past 4 years, last year seeing 438 applications for 180 places. At the time of advertising we have 1198 students on roll.

We are seeking an experienced teacher of English with a track record of successfully teaching a range of abilities across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.  We also welcome applications from NQTs.

Our English Team are the National Pearson Teaching Award winners for ‘Team of the Year 2015’ and all team members are dedicated to providing the very best education for all students.

Every teaching room in our English department is extremely well-resourced with state of the art facilities. Students have access to a range of fiction and non-fiction books, textbooks and resources. All of our courses are extremely popular and we supplement all of our curriculum with enrichment visits to the theatre, by working with the University of Cumbria or The Wordsworth Trust. Our students have a love for reading and we support and champion a variety of national initiatives in this area.
